What You Can Expect When You Choose To Get A Dental Implant For Tooth Replacement

Are you missing one or more teeth and seeking a quality replacement option? If you seek a tooth replacement option, you should visit Dr. Meredith Levine in Century City, California. Dental implants are an incredibly popular choice among those getting tooth replacement treatment. If you are looking for information on dental implants before talking with your dentist, here is a basic outline of what you can expect.

Consultation

When you have your first appointment, a comprehensive exam will be performed to evaluate the health of your jawbone. X-rays, impressions, and color matching may all be done so that a plan for implant placement can be put together. Also, during this appointment, you will decide how many teeth are being replaced with implants and talk about any extractions that may be necessary.

Extraction

If you have remaining teeth that are still in place but which you have decided to replace with a dental implant, they will need to be extracted. Depending on your situation, you could have your extraction done at the same time as your implant procedure. Anesthesia options will be discussed before any surgical procedures.

Dental Implant Procedure

Once you are ready for your dental implant and your jawbone has been deemed healthy and strong enough to support an implant, you will arrive for your appointment. Dr. Levine does not place implants, but will refer you to a trusted oral surgeon. You will have discussed the method of anesthesia that will be used by this point, and you will need to follow your surgeon’s direction if there is any fasting that needs to be done prior.

Once the implant is placed and your procedure is over, you will receive post-op instructions, which you need to be sure and follow closely. Over the next 3 to 6 months, a process called osseointegration will occur. During this time, your jawbone will begin to bond with the dental implant. Once your implant is stable, an abutment will be placed, and a crown or other tooth prosthetic will be fitted on the abutment.  The restoration is performed by Dr. Levine after your surgical procedure.
